MIddle- and high-school students are competing in the U.S. Military Academy event

WilsonMiller, sponsor of the second annual West Point Bridge Design Contest, has selected the top six finalists in each division.

Developed by the U.S. Military Academy, this competition uses interactive computer bridge-design software that allows high school and middle school students to design and load test their own bridges right before their eyes.

Winners earn a spot in the Florida Section Competition for a chance to win a total of $4,500 cash prizes. Due to privacy laws regarding minors, the names of the finalists have not been released.

The final round of the local SunCoast Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ West Point Bridge Design Contest will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on June 7 at the Sarasota Square Mall.
