“Temporarily suspended” would have been a more accurate description of the breakdown in talks that occurred late Monday and Tuesday between Sarasota officials and the Boston Red Sox, says Sarasota County Commissioner Joe Barbetta.

The county is proposing raising the tourist tax to fund its portion of the cost.

Commissioners will take public comment about raising the tax at a public hearing on October 29. It's the last item on the agenda that day.
