Founding director J. Steven Root takes over as president and CEO
J. Steven Root is the new president and CEO of the Community Bank of Cape Coral (www.fcb-yourbank.com). Root, a founding director of the bank had been serving as acting president prior to his promotion. Chris Ferrer, the founder and former president of the bank, has taken a medical leave of absence, yet will maintain his standing on the bank’s board of directors. Root, a Cape Coral resident, has 40 years of commercial banking experience and has held executive positions in large regional banks as well as community banks in Ohio, Indiana and Florida. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and has a degree from the Advanced Management Program from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. Root is involved in various community organizations and associations, including Freedom Waters, a not-for-profit sailing organization for the physically challenged; United Way; Harvard Alumni Club; Kent State University Alumni Association; and the Take Stock in Children mentoring program. “I’m honored to be asked to fill this position,” said Root. “Chris (Ferrer) established a great banking organization with an outstanding team of dedicated employees who will help us grow and exceed customer expectations. We all look forward to working with Chris as an active director while he continues his medical recovery.” Community Bank of Cape Coral is part of Southwest Community Bancorp Inc., a local holding company that also includes First Community Bank and Sanibel Captiva Community Bank.
