Group want a tax allocation to pay for the renovation of Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota The Downtown Partnership is encouraging the Sarasota County Commission to support a $17.5 million allocation from the Tourism Development Tax to renovated Ed Smith Stadium and keep the Cincinnati Reds in town.

The teams’ economic contribution is up to $50 million annually, according to the partnership.

Others supporting the allocation are the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce, Argus Foundation, members of COBA, the City of North Port and the City of Sarasota, according to Drayton Saunders, the Downtown Partnership’s board chairman.
